Today was the day he finally able to be operated. Filled with much anticipation on his recovery, but I still keep a neutral stand; able to recover good, not able to, I will accept the fact and do something about it. Nobody knows what the result would be, even the doctors.
The nurse in the ward called my eldest sister and informed us that he was getting ready to be pushed down for operation soon and she will hold the patient if we were going. We quickly woke up and washed up, reached there at his ward, he was already being pushed down.
The nurse who called us brought us down to the operating theatre waiting area, 3A, and there we saw him. We told him to perservere, we will be there once he is awake sort of stuff. He looked determined, we were happy to see that too.
The anaesthetist came and checked for his state of mind to ensure he was fully aware that he would be undergoing an operation soon. He was in a clear state of mind and soon we left.
The nurse though not as friendly as her face seemed, but can see that she is very willing to help given enough time. :)
Like what dramas usually showed, the family of the patient would wait in the hospital till the operation finished, but my eldest sister asked us to go home or work as it is pointless to wait outside. Any emergencies we will be notified by the hopsital. In addition, if the operation is going to be a success, it would take at least 7 to 8 hours. And so we left the hospital as well.
Around noon, my eldest sister received a SMS from the hospital. My dad has been sent to high dependency ward already, Ward 5B or C, bed 55. It means the operation did not go on as expected.
Soon, we received a call from the doctor and we were requested to see them to brief us on the process of the operation.
We met the plump Dr. Lee, the skinny Dr. Lee was transferred to other teams on the day of my dad's operation, but he still did his best till the last point by seeing my dad through the scans and decision on the operation. Commendable. :)
We were already told that the operation may not be able to carry out fully i.e. the tumor is not removed if signs of spreading were detected. Indeed, according to the doctor, they found harderned lumps near his rectum and one near the liver after they shifted the liver for cut. They sent these lumps for testing and positive results of cancer-cancer has spreaded.
We were quite prepared for this and so did not give too much exaggerated expression. The plump Dr. Lee kept appologised to us and repeat that the doctor in charge, Dr. Low gave a very serious and deep thought before calling off the operation. Because my dad was a middle class case, not that old nor young, a plus point was he did not had too many other complaints of health and so the doctors were willing to operate on him. We understand all these and also the reality of life. If there is, there will be. If nothing was to be there, there will be nothing. So we did not force much also.
He regained his conciousness by evening I think, but feeling really very weak and pain. They gave him a very strong painkiller, fentanyl and somthing FCA or PCA something like that. When he feels the pain, he would need to press the button once to release the painkiller into his body.
When I first saw him in the high dependency ward, my first impression was so many many tubings around him. He has got one to measure the oxygen level in his blood, SpO2, one for his blood pressure, one for his heart beat and a few more which I cannot remember. We dare not touch him in case of removing anything and also asked him not to move too greatly also.
He needed more rest and sleep and so we left him to sleep over the night also before we come in the next day, hopefully he feels better and we can know more about his condition from himself.
